Homemade Anise Whiskey
Homemade Anise Whiskey-If you like whiskey, then this is the perfect recipe. However, whiskey does have some health benefits when used in moderation. For example, whiskey can potentially act as a blood thinner and lower your risk of blood clots. And it can reduce stress levels and also help you sleep better. This is a delicious recipe that will perk you up and relax you simultaneously.
1½ oz. Rye Whiskey (Your choice)
¾ oz. chili-anise syrup
Two dashes of orange bitters
4 oz seltzer water
garnish: with a lemon or lime wheel
Chili Anise Syrup
10-star anise pods
3/4 cup of sugar
5 oz Dark beer
1 cup water
1 tsp. citric acid
1 tsp. salt
Two lemons
Instructions:
Make the simple anise syrup by combining water and sugar in a small saucepan on medium heat.
When sugar is dissolved, add 10-star anise pods dark beer and add the zest of 2 lemons to the syrup. Blend on high in a blender. Add citric acid and whisk until citric acid is dissolved.
Cover and simmer for 10 minutes, then turn the heat off and let steep for at least 1 hour. Let cool. The syrup will be good in the fridge for at least a week.
In a shaker, add all ingredients except the seltzer water. Shake and strain over fresh ice in a highball glass.
*Top with seltzer and garnish with lemon or lime.
